Welcome to Samba Celtica

We’re a large and popular samba band based in West Cornwall (near Helston) open to all members of the community. We have over 30 people in the band and we are always happy to see new members and guests. Are you musical? Do you have an ear for rhythm? Would you like to play with one of the South West's best samba bands? Well here is your chance: at the moment we are running a series of open bateria rehearsals where new members and guests will be extremely welcome. The band rehearse near Helston in West Cornwall and have a diverse membership of all ages (16+). Take a look at the join us page for more info!

Where to see us play

Our next gig: we'll be welcoming the Olympic Torch to Helston with some samba on Saturday 19th May! We will be meeting the torch on the road by the Old Cattle Market at just after 10am. See you there! More info on our upcoming gigs page

What's new?

Our last gig was in St Ives for their lovely May Day celebrations and parade. And we managed not to get rained on! Fantastic. Thank you to everyone involved! Our gig before that was amazing: playing samba at another of the Strictly Steppas Karnival nights at Falmouth Rugby Club on Saturday 28 April. We played 2 sets either side of the headline dj, and it was awesome. Photos are on our Facebook page now! Before that we were playing samba for the deliciously lovely Porthleven Food Festival on April 21st, and it was a fantastic day as usual. We have played there for the last few years and it's a brilliant day full of gorgeous food and drink and lots of other musicians. We even managed to avoid most of the rain in the morning! Thank you to everyone involved, it was lovely. Photos and video will be available soon. Before that we played in a very unusual location - on a runway! We had great fun playing samba for Cornwall Air Ambulance at their new location in Newquay. Well done to all runners! There are some photos on our Facebook page from Padstow Christmas Festival on Saturday 3rd December - we played in the afternoon on the harbour and had a fantastic time, what a lovely day!

We had a really lovely evening in Stithians on November 25th playing samba in the Stithians Lantern Parade - a lovely start to the festive season! Thank you to everyone involved.

A video is now on Youtube from our gig on fireworks night at the Magpies football ground in Penzance. Check it out here! We had a fab time playing samba on the pitch (apologies for the muddy patches) with our very own Guy Fawkes dancing along with us! Amazing to have such a big crowd, what a great atmosphere - and the fireworks were absolutely fabulous. Thank you very much indeed to the organisers and we're already looking forward to next year!
