Welcome to Samba Celtica

We’re a large and popular samba band based in West Cornwall (near Helston) open to all members of the community. We have over 30 people in the band and we are always happy to see new members and guests. Interested in joining a samba band?

Are you musical? Do you have an ear for rhythm? Would you like to play with one of the South West's best samba bands? Well here is your chance: during January and February 2012 we are running a series of open bateria rehearsals where new members and guests will be extremely welcome. Joining the band at this time of year means you have a chance to learn our repertoire before the summer gigs. The band rehearse near Helston in West Cornwall and have a diverse membership of all ages (16+). Take a look at the join us page for more info!

Our last gig was playing samba for New Year's Eve in St Ives - and it was amazing as usual! There are some photos from St Ives NYE 2011/12 here! If you've never been to St Ives for New Year then you are missing out - it's one of the biggest fancy dress street parties there is, and it's always an awesome night out. What's new?

There are some photos on our Facebook page from Padstow Christmas Festival on Saturday 3rd December - we played in the afternoon on the harbour and had a fantastic time, what a lovely day!

We had a really lovely evening in Stithians on November 25th playing samba in the Stithians Lantern Parade - a lovely start to the festive season! Thank you to everyone involved.

A video is now on Youtube from our gig on fireworks night at the Magpies football ground in Penzance. Check it out here! We had a fab time playing samba on the pitch (apologies for the muddy patches) with our very own Guy Fawkes dancing along with us! Amazing to have such a big crowd, what a great atmosphere - and the fireworks were absolutely fabulous. Thank you very much indeed to the organisers and we're already looking forward to next year!

Did you see us in the water at the Porthleven raft race on Sunday 25th September?! We had an awesome time! We played on the harbour before the race and then some of our intrepid band members leapt into the sea on our fantastic samba raft...which was nothing short of hilarious. Good paddling guys! We also had a brilliant summer season, including playing samba in the parade at Padstow Carnival in August; playing in the parade at Wadebridge Carnival in July; samba in the lovely sunshine at South Kerrier Official Food Festival (SKOFF) in Helston on Saturday 2nd July. Of course we were also playing samba for one of our favourite gigs of the year - Mazey Day in Penzance on Saturday 25th June, and it was awesome as usual! Thank you so much to everyone involved in all our summer gigs.

We were also absolutely delighted to play samba for a lovely wedding near Launceston on the 18th June, meeting the bride and groom at the church door and leading their wedding procession along to their reception venue - the sun came out and their guests danced along behind them. Many congratulations to the bride and groom and thanks for the champagne and the biscuits! Photos are available - check out the 'photos' section!

The end of May bank holiday weekend was a busy one for us: we played at a private party on Saturday 28th May in St Ives with lots of dancing guests - thanks guys! Then we played samba for Newton Faulkner + friends - in aid of bikin' for boobies - organised by brilliant charity CoppaFeel on bank holiday Monday 30th May, at Land's End in the far west of Cornwall - which was an awesome gig!
